Youth Access Fund

Backing the next generation of competition climbers. The Portside Youth Access Fund helps support young climbers in our community to access the competition circuit – both across Australia and overseas. Your donation goes straight to the climbers' costs associated with competitions, such as travel, rego fees, or gear. 100% of funds raised go directly to youth athletes.

All admin is done by volunteers. Every donation, big or small, helps a young climber take their next step. Thanks for being part of the journey.

Donate at events

We run raffles, comps, and fundraisers throughout the year.

Contribute anytime

Donations can be made directly to the fund at any Portside gym or using the form below.

Legends like Climbit Physio regularly donate proceeds from their event stalls straight to the fund.

Eligibility Criteria

The Portside Youth Competition Access Fund aims to support young Portside climbers’ access to the competition circuit both nationally and internationally. 100% of your donation will go towards this goal with all associated administrative labour being undertaken by volunteers!

    • Public donations and monies will be held in an independent bank account reserved solely for this fund.

    • Bank statements will be made fully available for transparency, on request.

    • Funds will be used to finance flights, accommodation and miscellaneous competition expenses such as registration fees.

    • In the event that we receive no eligible applicants, funds remain in the trust account for the following round of applications.

    • The executors of the fund reserve the right to decide the proportion of available funds to be allocated for each round of applications. This is to ensure future applicants will not be disadvantaged.

    • The executors of the fund are operating on a voluntary basis. 100% of funds raised will go directly to young climbers in need.

  • To be eligible to claim the Youth Access Fund, a climber must:

    • Hold a current Portside Boulders membership (term Youth Club and Youth Squad memberships included)

    • Intend to register for and compete in a Sports Climbing Australia or International Federation of Sport Climbing competition (any category)

    • Are 17 years of age or under at the time of application, and,

    • Main guardian(s) hold or are eligible for, the low income health care card, OR has special circumstances which should be considered

    • Please see link below for documentation outlining the selection process. The document should outline clearly which Category Form you will need to complete.

  • Portside Boulders will advise:

    1. Eligible event name and details,

    2. Maximum number of potential beneficiaries of funds,

    3. Application opening and closing dates.

  • If the applicant fulfills all eligibility criteria stated on the previous page, they move to the next step.

  • If there is more than one successful applicant and the fund cannot cover all applicants, Portside Boulders will then ask:

    1. Was the applicant granted financial assistance from the last round of Youth Competition Fund Access?
If yes, proceed to question 2. If no, proceed to question 3.

    2. Does the applicant have special conditions which should be considered in their application for funding?
If NO, they are not eligible for fund access.
If YES, they must complete CATEGORY B Application Form.
The applicants of CATEGORY B undergo a vetting process by an independent person    of  good standing who is unrelated to any of the applicants. The shortlisted     applicants will be ranked by an independent 3-person board, and the top two     applicants go through to stage four.

    3. Does the applicant's Main carer(s)/provider(s) hold, or are eligible for, the low income health care card?
If NO, and there are no special conditions to be considered, they are not eligible for fund access.
If YES, they must complete CATEGORY A Application Form.

  • A random selection of the pool of applicants occurs,  and there is an announcement of the beneficiarie(s).
